Meet Remy
Change for Remy is putting a concussion behind her.
Remy is an active and outgoing 13-year-old girl who participates in a variety of competitive sports including cross country running, hockey and soccer. A concussion she received when she was struck with a ball during a soccer match threw Remy and her family into a spiral of uncertainty. Since concussions are not visible brain injuries, how would Remy and her family know she was fully recovered? Would she ever be able to return to competitive sports?
Thanks to Holland Bloorview’s Concussion Research Centre — the first of its kind in the world to study how concussions impact the brains of children and youth — Remy and the team created a plan to make sure that she recovered from her concussion fully, safely, and without undue stress to her developing brain. Now, she is safely back in the game, playing soccer and hockey, and winning medals with her cross country running team.
